Detailed description is Happy Acres is a sanctuary for the elderly, the recovering, afflicted and behaviorally-challenged dogs who have come to us in need. We have from 20-30 dogs living at Happy Acres at any given time, depending on adoptions and such. Currently our number is 26, with three dogs being adoptable. The rest of the dogs fit in one of the following categories:. --has a medical condition requiring special care . --is blind or has limited vision. --is recovering from surgery or a treatment plan is being implemented. --is a bite risk aka really shy and cannot be approached without caution. --is elderly. . . . .and then, of course, there are some who are Audie's personal dogs.. . Happy Acres has three separate yards so the dogs can be divided according to need. The main yard leads into the Happy Room, a separate laundry/craft room into the house with tile floor and most of the dogs reside here. The barn rooms are heated and have air conditioning and lead into two separate yards. Each yard has doggie doors going in and out so the dogs can come and go as they wish. There are only a few dogs who don't get along, which is why it is great to have the separate yards. We often rotate out so everyone can play together; they enjoy that.
