I am the son of immigrants who came to this great city to provide a better life for their family. A century after Henry Ford revolutionized American industry, Dearborn has become a melting pot of cultures. My father escaped the war torn Middle East and spent most of his life working as a heating and cooling engineer. He instilled in me the value of having a tireless work ethic and the will to succeed. My mother, a stay at home mom, taught me the importance of integrity and doing things the right way. These are values that have shaped my life immensely and I am forever indebted to them. . . . For over 50 years I have called Dearborn my home. My childhood memories take me back to the South End, where we lived with my grandmother on Essex Street. Once we were fortunate enough to purchase our own home our family moved across town to West Dearborn, taking me from Salina to Howe Elementary. I continued my journey through Dearborn Public Schools, from Stout to Edsel Ford High before enrolling at Henry Ford College. Our schools have a special place in my heart and one of the cornerstones of my campaign is to ensure our schools have the resources they need to prepare our kids for the future. . . . My entrepreneurial spirit was inspired by the greatest entrepreneur of the 20th century, Henry Ford. With the help of my parents and money I saved up fixing cars in our driveway on Culver street, I bought my first gas station. This was the start of my business career in Metro Detroit, a career that has now spanned over three decades. As I began realizing success in business I set my sights on revitalizing West Dearborn. I had a vision that I firmly believed in: West Dearborn could become a bustling, prime district that our residents would be proud of. This is why I began purchasing vacant, dilaidated building along Michigan Avenue from Monroe to Military. I persevered through the setbacks of the “Great Recession,” including the real estate bust of 2009. I invested millions of dollars upgrading obsolete and derelict buildings, transforming them from eyesores to beautifully built modern structures. My projects attracted big brands to Dearborn including Panera Bread and Buffalo Wild Wings. Other developments included the Gateway Plaza and new luxury residential apartment buildings. . . . My entire business career has been focused on the redevelopment of West Dearborn, where my wife and I have raised our 5 wonderful children. I devoted my time to proudly serve on the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority as well as the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce. This has given me unique insight on how our city operates.
