Güngenci ailesi 150 yıldır saat tamir, imalatı ve satışı ile uğraşmaktadır. 1864 yılında büyük dedem Usta Adem tarafından bir aile geleneği olarak başlatılan saat ustalığı, Usta Adem’in saat tamiri ve imalatı alanında meydana getirdiği eserler ve yoğun uğraşları neticesinde yüzyılların ötesinden günümüze taşınabilmiştir. Cep saatinden büyük duvar saatlerine uzanan çeşitlilik içinde her saati tamir ve imal edebilen büyük dedem Usta Adem kendi olanaklarıyla her parçası ahşaptan bir duvar saati üretmiştir, bu girişim Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda yerel saat üretiminin erken örenklerinden biridir. Bu ahşap duvar saati şu anda Güngenci ailesi koleksiyonunda yer almaktadır.. . Dedem Abdülhalim Bey saat ustalığının sırlarını büyük dedem Usta Adem’den öğrenmiş, yeryüzünde bulunan her türlü saati onarabilecek, yeniden üretebilecek bir yetkinliğe ulaşmıştır. Abdülhalim Bey parçası onarılamayacak duruma gelen ya da olmayan saatlerin parçalarını yeniden üreterek saatleri yaşama döndürmesiyle ün kazanmış değerli bir ustadır.. . Babam Ali Güngenci ve amcalarım Osman, Adem, Yılmaz, Zeki ve Faruk Güngenci saat ustalığı ve ticaretine 1940 yıllarda başlayarak aile geleneğini günümüze taşımışlardır. Bu değerli saat ustalarından bugün aramızda olamayanları saygı ve rahmetle anmaktayız.. . Aile soyadımız olan Güngenci Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında kabul edilen soyadı kanunu gereğince alınmıştır. Aile mesleğini ifade eden bir anlam taşıyan Güngenci Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında Türkçe’yi yabancı kelimelerden arındırma politikasının bir yansıması olarak aslen Arapça olan saat kelimesinin Türkçe karşılığı olan güngenden türetilerek saatçi anlamına gelen Güngenci şeklinde aile adı olarak alınmıştır.. .
