Detailed description is Visit the "Birthplace of Hoosier Hospitality" Grouseland is a Federal style mansion (completed in 1804) that served as the private residence / governor's mansion for then-governor of the Indiana Terriory (1800-1812) and later 9th President of the United States (1841), William Henry Harrison. The home was the site of many treaty negotiations and signings with Native Americans, and the site of the famous confrontations between Shawnee leader, Tecumseh, and Harrison in 1810 and 1811. Lewis and Clark stopped here upon their return from their historic exploration of the far West and wrote to Secretary of War, Henry Dearborn from Grouseland.. . Today, the mansion houses one of the finest collections of artifacts and furnishings from the Indiana territorial (or "pre-statehood") period. The mansion also interprets the whole life and many accomplishments of William Henry Harrison (1773-1841) and many personal items and artifacts from his battles, presidential campaigns and untimely death are on display.
