It all began... in the early part of the century when William Mackenzie Rowe, his wife and family of 7 boys and 2 girls farmed the lands of Lumber Island, on the Grand River. . . In the summer of 1953, William's son Jim was impressed by the large number of happy tourists that passed by the farm, and as proprietor of the family meat market in Dunnville, decided to open a small hamburger stand. . . Those hot-dogs and hamburgers must've been good. People came back for more, and the place grew and changed over the years from a farm to Grand Island Bar-B-Q, a featured attraction in Ontario Region for both American and Canadian Tourists. . . Today it is operated by Jim's son David, who faithfully upholds his father's tradition - "a family place for food and fun on the Grand."
