Detailed description is A group of alumni and friends of Girard High School whose purpose is to provide educational scholarships. The first scholarship was awarded by the association in 1993 and was worth $1,000 each year for up to 4 years at a qualified higher institution of learning. For a period of time, there was a 2nd scholarship awarded that was up to 2 years. Currently, there is one scholarship awarded worth $3,000 each year for up to 4 years ($12,000 total). This scholarship has been named the Gene Cushman Memorial Scholarship in memory of the founder of the association. . Each year, the Board of Directors determines the value of the scholarship based on the return investments, as well as contributions and membership dues . received. Membership is open to everyone. Specifically, any and all Girard High School graduates as well as Girard residents are invited to be part of this. worthwhile organization. Support is vital to the perpetuity of these . scholarships. A one year membership is $10, or a "lifetime membership" can be . attained for a one time amount of $125. The membership fee entitles you to all. association correspondence, including newsletters and notification of the annual. GHS Alumni & Friends' Dinner. The association holds a dinner each . year for the purpose of reminiscing, enjoying a good meal together, hearing from recent scholarship winners, and conducting any business that requires the . attention of the membership at large. This is also a time that classes celebrating. milestone anniversaries choose to get together as part of reunion weekends. .
