Detailed description is Softball training from college coaches across the midwest The Gillis International Fastpitch Institute was founded in 1986 by Doug Gillis, a six-time member of Team USA. Doug started playing at 8 years old and was participating in a men’s league at the age of 15. Doug’s father, Art Gillis, was a long-time player and sponsor, and his team won the ISC World title in 1979 while Doug was the bat boy. Because of these connections, Doug had the privilege of learning the game from the best at an early age. Doug went on to play at the Major level for 25 years and has many All-American titles. He also won two Major ASA National Tournaments as a player, one Collegiate National Championship as a coach, and he also was on the last Gold Medal-winning Team USA.. . In 1986 Doug began running clinics around his home state of Michigan. The following year he started giving individual lessons with only 15 students. Within four years the company expanded to giving nearly 200 weekly lessons from their main location in Farmington Hills and a few offsite locations. The Institute soon expanded into summer camps and team camps, which hosted 96 teams at the Pontiac Silverdome. The IFI continues to add instructors and now hosts nationwide clinics throughout the year. We have grown to 550 students per week and our main headquarters was built in Wixom, MI, in 2005 with a full dirt infield and all the trimmings.
