Freddie’s Contemporary Impressionism combines light and color to create vibrant images that come to life on canvas. Landscapes or portraits he is comfortable with oils to capture the light that draws people to his studio.. A native Floridian, he started painting in the second grade in Lakeland, Florida. He later studied under Marilyn Bendell in Sarasota, Florida. A graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago Freddie opened an antiques and art business in Tampa, FL. He operated an art gallery and re-developed several locations around his art gallery. A visit to New Orleans was the siren’s call to devote his time to art. The Fredrick Guess Studio opened in 1997 and doubles as both retail gallery and working studio. In the studio, he enjoys meeting clientele from the world over, many of whom have become dear friends. He also has a wonderful time teaching workshops in the gallery.. When asked what inspires his art Freddie stated: “To me, picking up a brush or palette knife is an act of communing. I take in what’s around me, let it become part of me, and let it out again. In that step of letting it out, when it takes form on canvas, I get to not only re-experience it, but also to share it with someone else and hope that they make it part of their life.
