Detailed description is . Gabriela Mistral, seudónimo de Lucila de María del Perpetuo Socorro Godoy Alcayaga, fue una poetisa, diplomática, feminista y pedagoga chilena. Una de las principales figuras de la poesía y literatura chilena y latinoamericana, fue la primera iberoamericana premiada con el Nobel: ganó el de Literatura en 1945.BiografíaHija de Juan Jerónimo Godoy Villanueva, profesor de ascendencia diaguita, y de Petronila Alcayaga Rojas, de ascendencia vasca, Gabriela Mistral nació en Vicuña, ciudad en la que hoy existe un museo dedicado a ella en la calle donde nació y que actualmente lleva su nombre. A los diez días sus padres se la llevaron a La Unión (Pisco Elqui), pero su «amado pueblo», como ella misma decía, era Montegrande, donde vivió de los tres a los nueve años, y donde pidió que le dieran sepultura.Sus abuelos paternos, oriundos de la actual región de Antofagasta, fueron Gregorio Godoy e Isabel Villanueva; y los maternos, Francisco Alcayaga Barraza y Lucía Rojas Miranda, descendientes de familias propietarias de tierras del valle de Elqui.
