Diferentemente do futevôlei tradicional, a modalidade 4x4 tem quatro jogadores em cada equipe e a rede é mais baixa, o que torna a partida mais dinâmica. O formato foi desenvolvido pensando em entretenimento, com foco no público e nas transmissões da televisão. A realização do primeiro campeonato brasileiro da modalidade mostra o fortalecimento do esporte e é mais um passo rumo à profissionalização.. . História do esporte. Líder do ranking mundial do esporte, o Brasil é o berço do futevôlei, que começou a ser praticado nas praias do Rio na década de 1960 e foi inicialmente batizado “pévolei”. Grandes jogadores de futebol profissional, como os tricampeões mundiais Jairzinho e Fontana e o atacante argentino Doval estão entre os primeiros craques a experimentar a nova modalidade.. . As primeiras associações e federações estaduais de futevôlei foram criadas na década de 1990. A Federação de Futevôlei do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Futerj) foi a primeira a ser criada, em 1996, com Flamengo, Botafogo e Vasco como os clubes sócio-fundadores. . . Em 2002 houve a fundação da Federação Internacional de Futevôlei (FIFv). No ano seguinte, foi disputado o primeiro Mundial da modalidade, em Atenas, Grécia, com a participação de 18 duplas de 14 países. Helinho e Magrão trouxeram o primeiro título mundial para o Brasil. Em 2004, o país sediou seu primeiro Mundial, jogado em Brasília, e vencido pela dupla Belo/Marcelinho.. . O I Circuito Mundial Masculino de Futevôlei foi jogado em 2007. Dali em diante, os brasileiros vêm mantendo a hegemonia na modalidade.. . Em 2013 foi fundada a Confederação Novo Futevôlei Brasil (NFvB) com as federações do Rio (Futerj), Paraná e Santa Catarina como sócio-fundadoras.
