Detailed description is Owners ~ Mike& Jayme Mjelde Frontenac Bakery was established in 1900 by George Vacca, an Italian immigrant.
Prior to coming to Frontenac, Vacca was a baker in northern Italy.
He came to southeast Kansas to work in the coal mines.
After injuring his knee in a mining accident, he went back to baking here in Frontenac, Kansas.
He had brought his family recipe for hard-crust Italian bread with him and it is still used today.
That is how and why Frontenac Bakery came to life!.
