The Friendship Hose Company No. 1, Inc. is the Fire and EMS Department that serves the Borough of Newville, and portions of West Pennsboro, North Newton, Upper Mifflin, and Lower Mifflin Townships in Cumberland County, PA. Our area that we cover is very diverse from highly residential areas, to rural areas out along the North Mountain. We provide mutual aid to our surrounding fire departments as well. We also provide Emergency Medical Services in a large area between Carlisle and Shippensburg; the same area our fire/rescue side covers with the addition of Upper Frankford, Penn, and a portion of Lower Frankford and Cooke Townships. Currently, our present-day apparatus consists of a 2,000-gal. engine-tanker, a 1,000-gal. engine-rescue, a moderate-sized rescue vehicle, a 300-gal. mini pumper, a 150-gal brush truck, three ambulances, and a utility pick-up truck used for miscellaneous emergency calls and also for assisting with fundraiser functions.
