Around 1920, the state of Georgia gave the South Commons to Columbus with the limitation that it had to be used for recreation purposes. Any other use has to be approved by voters in a referendum. The Friends of Golden Park want to re-purpose the 1926 stadium for an amphitheatre to preserve the Commons for the people... . Golden Park has a rich history.
