Fatih, Tarihi yarımada (Suriçi) denen İstanbul şehrinin kurulduğu ve geliştiği bölgenin tamamını kaplayan ve İstanbul'un merkezi sayılan ilçe.

2008'de Eminönü İlçesi'nin varlığının bir kere daha ortadan kaldırılıp tarihinde olduğu gibi yeniden Fatih İlçesi'ne katılmasından beri tekrar tüm Tarihi Yarımada üzerindeki tek ilçe haline gelmiştir.
Kırsal yerleşimi olmayan ve 15.62 km²'lik (1562 hektar) bir alanı kaplayan Fatih İlçesi 57 mahalleden oluşmaktadır.AdıKonstantinopolis 1453'te Osmanlılar tarafından fethedildiğinde Ortodoks Patrikhanesi, Ayasofya'nın hemen yanında yer almaktaydı.
Patrikhane fethi izleyen günlerde önce Havariyun Kilisesi'ne daha sonra da Fener'e taşındı.Fatih Sultan Mehmet fethin onuncu yılında yıktırdığı Havariyun Kilisesi'nin yerine kendi adıyla anılan büyük bir külliye yaptırdı.
