Detailed description is The Everett Casey Nature Center and Reserve, also known as "the Casey Land," features 76 acres of forest and creek that provides space for artistic inspiration and interdisciplinary study for Iowa State's MFA Program in Creative Writing and Environment. A recent gift to Iowa State University's English Department for use by the MFA Program in Creative Writing and Environment, the Everett Casey Nature Center and Reserve offers MFA students a unique opportunity to do hands-on field research on 76 acres that include Bluff Creek, a tributary to the Skunk River that oxbows between two timbered bluffs. The wetlands and woods are home to a remarkable variety of plants and animals. . . Just 20 miles from campus, this undeveloped property features a rich ecological dynamic, and its proximity to Iowa State makes it a perfect research site for students and faculty alike. Not only is this a wonderful field laboratory and library for MFA students and faculty; it is also an invaluable outdoor classroom and gathering place.. . Driving directions from Ames: Follow US-30 West from Ames through Boone to Ogden. Take the Ogden exit and turn right. Drive north through town about 5.5 miles on N 1st St onto Co Hwy P70. Turn right onto E26, also known as 170th St. Drive east, down and up a hill, and at the top of the hill find on your right a small sign and gravel road marking the entrance to the Casey Reserve.. .
