O Ypiranga foi fundado em 7 de setembro de 1906, sendo um dos mais antigos clubes do futebol da Bahia.. . No início do Século XX, jovens e trabalhadores excluídos socialmente por fatores étnicos, sociais e econômicos, cotizaram-se e fundaram o Sport Club Sete de Setembro, em 17 de abril de 1904. Dois anos depois, em 7 de setembro de 1906, o clube é extinto para dar lugar ao Sport Club Ypiranga (atualmente Esporte Clube Ypiranga).. . O nome do novo time é escolhido de forma emblemática, fruto do momento conjuntural de construção da identidade nacional. O Esporte Clube Ypiranga é a síntese da união dos pobres da cidade, que querem se integrar construindo um tempo novo, rompendo com privilégios das elites arraigadas pelo escravismo do antigo regime imperial.
