Ernie's Heart was founded by Jan Smith in April, 2012.
She was volunteering at Madison County shelters and found that many families are forced to take their pets in when they can feed them properly.
Jan wanted to find a way to assist families with pet food during hard times...so that they wouldn't have to make that terrible decision to break up their family.
Jan started out with 37 families.
That number has grown to over 400 families within a year.
Ernie's Heart is named after the Walker Coon dog that Jan fostered for many months.
Ernie is a special dog...Jan saved him from being "put down".
Ernie is happy, healthy and lives on a farm with a loving family.
Ernie represents HOPE and what individuals can do to help others--when they open their HEARTS!! Ernie's Heart helps Madison County pet parents in need..solely through DONATIONS.
