Detailed description is Get back to basics at Engelhart Farms. We have serving the community since 1922 we are the oldest and largest direct to the consumer farm in the area. Get back to basics at Engelhart Farms. We have serving the community since 1922 we are the oldest and largest direct to the consumer farm in the area. We are an old-fashioned general type family farm and roadside stand at Pacific, Mo. on Route 66 (The. Garden Way). Our farming practices have not changed much over the years. Many of the same varieties of fruits and vegetables have been grown by the Engelhart family for over 100 years. Although we are not certified organic we strive to do things as naturally as possible. We do not grow and fruits or vegetables that are GMO's (Genetically Modified Organism's).. . Engelhart Farms is almost like a step back in time. We use what we can from the farm and do what we can on the farm. For example: We do all our own blacksmithing for our ornamental ironwork that we sell. We do all of our own millwork for the farm woodworking shop. Most of the lumber we use comes from the farm or the local. We use mostly older tools and machinery that were made in the USA, in fact we have an Aspenwall potato planter that's 130 years old and still works great. . . We believe in crop rotation rather than using a lot of chemicals. The ash from the wood we burn is used on the asparagus beds for the potash and to bring the pH levels up. We use raw honey from the honey bees on the farm, instead of root hormone, when we make plant cuttings in the greenhouses. The sawdust from the farm workshop is used for mulch in the blackberries, raspberries, and blue berries. We raise all of our own transplants for the field. . . Unlike large commercial farms we get no help from the government. That's right, no price supports, grant, crop insurance, tax breaks, nothing! We are of no cost to the tax payers at all, and we pay taxes just like everyone else. . . We are however, a CSA ( Community Supported Agriculture) farm. Many of our customers purchased membership shares in the farm. This helps provide funding for long range crops like asparagus, orchards, vineyards, and berries that take several years of care before there's any kind of harvest. It also provides funding for such things as fences to keep deer from destroying the crops as well as normall day to day operations. . . CSA members help the farm,and at the same time the farm provides healthy homegrown and homemade products direct to the consumer at the lowest price possible. In some cases things that you just could not get anywhere else. An advantage to being an Engelhart farm CSA member is many times things that are in short supply are sold only to CSA members. Also a CSA member may request a certain product be raised or made. We will do this if we can but is not always possible. Membership share are only $100.00 per membership share, and it's so easy to become an Engelhart Farms CSA member.
