Für uns ist die Bibel die verbindliche Richtschnur für die persönliche Glaubens-überzeugung und praktische Gestaltung des Lebens. Auch für Leben und Ordnung der Gemeinde ist sie maßgeblich. Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass Gott selbst zu uns in der Bibel spricht.. . Wir sind evangelisch, weil wir an das Evangelium glauben und die gute Nachricht von Jesus Christus weitersagen.. . Wir sind freikirchlich, weil wir unabhängig von staatlicher Förderung arbeiten; Mitarbeit und Mitgliedschaft beruhen bei uns auf eigener, freier Entscheidung.. . Wir sind Gemeinde, weil wir als Christen aufeinander angewiesen sind; weil durch gemeinsames Gespräch und gegenseitige Hilfe vieles leichter wird.. . Als Baptisten gehören wir zum Bund Evangelisch-Freikirchlicher Gemeinden in Deutschland (BEFG) . Er ist mit 86.000 Mitgliedern in fast 900 Gemeinden die größte Freikirche Deutschlands. Als Freikirche ist der BEFG unabhängig vom Staat und somit wird auch keine Kirchensteuer erhoben. Sämtliche Aufwendungen werden aus freiwilligen Beiträgen der Mitglieder und Spenden bestritten.. . Die Glaubensgemeinschaft der Baptisten gibt es seit dem 17. Jahrhundert. Die erste deutsche Baptistengemeinde wurde 1834 von dem Kaufmann Johann Gerhard Oncken in Hamburg gegründet. Zuvor hatte er sich zusammen mit fünf Freunden in der Elbe von einem baptistischen Theologen aus Amerika taufen lassen (Baptist=Täufer). Durch die Tätigkeit Onckens als Bibelverbreiter kam es vielerorts zur Gründung von christlichen Gemeinden. 1849 wurde ein Gemeindebund ins Leben gerufen, der heute seinen Sitz und seine Geschäftsstelle in Bad Homburg hat.
