Foi na década de 50, que Itajubá se viu enriquecida com a fundação da Escola de Enfermagem Wenceslau Braz.
Sua história envolveu sonhos e ideais, lutas e conquistas.
E é um pouco dessa história que agora vamos conhecer:.
Surgiu esta Escola do idealismo de três enfermeiras da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Itajubá: Ir.
Celeste Silveira, Ir.
Stella Carvalhal e Ir.
Zenaide Nogueira Leite.
De uma conversa informal entre as três, sobre a necessidade de preparação de pessoal para o cuidado dos doentes, surgiu, de Ir.
Zenaide Nogueira Leite, a idéia de uma Escola de Enfermagem em Itajubá.

Em 9 de janeiro de 1954 foi criada a Escola de Enfermagem sob a direção da Santa Casa.
Nesse mesmo dia, a Provedoria da Santa Casa confia à Congregação das Irmãs da Providência de Gap a direção técnico pedagógica da Escola.
Uma religiosa desta Congregação, Madre Marie Ange, assume a tarefa de ajudar a concretizar o sonho: criar uma Escola de Enfermagem em Itajubá.
A nova missão, aceita com entusiasmo, alegria e coragem, foi um verdadeiro desafio, especialmente diante do preconceito então reinante contra a profissão de enfermeira..
O Vice-Provedor da Santa Casa, Sr.
Jayme Wood, propôs que se desse à Escola o nome de Wenceslau Braz, como homenagem ao provedor da Santa Casa, Dr.
Wenceslau Braz Pereira Gomes..
Inaugura-se, no dia 6 de março de 1955, a Escola de Enfermagem de Itajubá.

No dia seguinte, 7 de março, sete alunas iniciaram o curso de enfermagem, em uma sala de aula improvisada nas dependências da Santa Casa.
Das sete alunas matriculadas, cinco receberam o diploma de Enfermeira no dia 9 de março de 1958..
Como a Santa Casa nunca pode arcar com as despesas da Escola e a Congregação das Irmãs da Providência de Gap tendo já adiantado grandes somas para a construção do prédio próprio, veio a proposta do Dr.
Carlos Victor Rennó Ribeiro, membro do Corpo Clínico da Santa Casa e Professor da Escola de Enfermagem: fosse transferida para a Congregação das Irmãs da Providência de Gap a propriedade da Escola.
Assim, pelo Decreto de nº 46.584, de 13 de agosto de 1959 ficou reconhecida a nova mantenedora: Sociedade Religiosa, Moral e Científica, hoje Associação de Educação, Saúde e Cultura.
