STAFF: Co-Directors: Jesse Chittams, Darius McDaniel, and Catherine Williams; Faculty Director: Dr. Renee' Moore The Diversity initiatives in Research for Underrepresented Minorities (DRUM) program is one of the programs initiated in 2000 by the Great Young Society II, a non-profit 501c3organization and funded for several years through a UPENN diversity grant. . . One of the DRUM program’s objectives is to assist underrepresented minority high school students, by helping them successfully achieve admission to the college of their choice. This program also provides assistance to college interns who have a desire to learn about statistics, data management, informatics, and biomedical research studies.. . Specifically, we offer the students hands on skills with data collection using REDCap and Qualtrics, and data analysis using SAS SPSS, and STATA. . . The DRUM program operates on funding from tax deductible gifts, grants, and donations obtained from the Great Young Society II. The funds are used to offer students a stipend, pay for college application fees or a laptop computers. The ultimate goal is to expand the program nationally.. .
