Detailed description is Originally built in the 1950's as a Dairy Queen. It was a small, walk-up building with two windows to place your order. The first addition was a patio area for guests to sit. . . In 1970 the store expanded to the east and added a kitchen area and opened up a drive up window. At that time the customer would place their order and go park their car. When the order was ready their number was called out over a loud speaker and they would drive up to the window to pick up their order. A lot has changed since those days ... including two lanes for our Drive up customers.. . The most significant change / remodeling project was in January of 2008 when the Dairy Queen was offered the opportunity to become one of the first DQ Grill and Chill stores in the area ... and in 2010 added Orange Julius to the franchise.. . The DQ has been owned and operated by Scott & Barb Brooks since 1980. However ... Scott's first job in high school was working at DQ in 1970. Later on he met Barb while they were both working at DQ and Barb was attending EIU. . . After a few years away from Charleston they returned in 1980 to purchase the store where they had originally met.. . DQ G&C is very fortunate to have a management staff with over 100 years of DQ experience between them. They're the ones that keep us going strong.. . A big "thank you" goes out to all the people of Charleston and the Charleston area for your support over the years.
