Benvenuti!!!.Nació en Milán en 1964 y pasó su infancia en La Puglia, en el sur de Italia. Allí descubrió su vocación por la cocina, tarea que continuó en los Estados Unidos, donde dirigió las cocinas de importantes restaurantes de Los Ángeles, Santa Mónica, Hollywood, Chicago, Palm Beach y Miami y realizó diversas labores como docentes. Entre 1993 y 1999 fue el chef personal del diseñador Gianni Versace en su mansión Casa Casuarina de Miami y en Nueva York.. . En 2000 decidió radicarse en Buenos Aires, Argentina, donde dio clases de cocina en Gato Dumas Escuela de Cocineros y dirigió la cocina del Restaurante Verace. Realizó producciones fotográficas y de contenidos para varias editoriales, con las que también publicó sus libros, “Mi Cocina Italiana” (Sudamericana) “Fatto in Casa” (Bonum) "Donato per Bambini" (bonum) y "Cucina Paradiso" (Planeta). Su destacada labor fue reconocida con varios galardones, entre ellos dos premios Gourmand World Cookbook Awards (2005 y 2006) y segundo lugar en 2010. También fundó y dirige Da Donato, una exitosa empresa de catering, food styling, clases de cocina y boutique de productos gourmet.. . También en 2000 Donato comenzó su etapa en elgourmet.com, donde llegó a ser una de las figuras más destacadas y queridas por la audiencia, por su sencillez, simpatía y dedicado empeño por difundir la cocina de su país natal.
