Detailed description is Domat/Ems ist eine politische Gemeinde in der Region Imboden des Kantons Graubünden in der Schweiz. Domat/Ems ist ein Doppelname aus dem rätoromanischen und deutschen Namen der Ortschaft. Ausgesprochen wird es meistens als Domatems.Besonders auffallend sind die vielen Kirchen, welche die verschiedenen Wachstumsstadien der Gemeinde aufzeigen. Die älteste Kirche ist Sogn Pieder (Sankt Peter) am Fusse der Tuma Castè (Schlosshügel) im Dorfzentrum. Zum Gemeindegebiet gehört auch die oberhalb von Panix liegende Alp Ranasca.Geographisch ist Domat/Ems bekannt für die zwölf Tumas auf seinem Gemeindegebiet.BevölkerungSprachenBis in die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts sprach die gesamte Einwohnerschaft eine bündnerromanische Mundart. Obwohl dies eine mittelbündnerische Mundart war, wurde traditionell in allen Gemeinden des Bezirks Imboden das Surselvische als Schriftsprache gebraucht. In dieser Eigenschaft ähnelten sie den Gemeinden Bergün und Filisur, wo ebenfalls mittelbündnischere Mundarten in Gebrauch waren bzw. sind, als Schriftsprache aber das Oberengadinische (dort, historisch gesehen, hauptsächlich aus konfessionellen Gründen) in Gebrauch war.In der zweiten Hälfte des Jahrhunderts stieg die Zahl der Deutschsprachigen zwar, aber die Mehrheit blieb der Romanischen Sprache treu (1880 90 % und 1900 89 %). Dann begann ein leichtes Absinken der Mehrheitsverhältnisse auf 1941 76 %. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg verschob sich die Sprachenlage ständig mehr zugunsten des Deutschen.
