Detailed description is DJ HiTech was founded by the Mountaineer Hose Co (aka: da “Hosey”) in Minersville, PA around 1996 along with Eric Andruchek, Brian & Matt Carr and myself, Paul Zaharis.
It all started after my college days (although I played a cd or two at all my college house parties in Kutztown, PA).
Being a volunteer firefighter, our fire company (da “Hosey”) is always looking for ways to raise money.
Having a dance every once in a while was one of the fundraisers.
We had bands play, mostly “MIXX”, and a fight always seemed to break out sometime in the night ruining the evening – so we stopped having the dances.
One day, Brian came up with a crazy idea.
Since Brian had a big house stereo and about 200 cd’s and since I had about 100 different cd’s and another stereo, we decided to dj a dance at da Hosey.
The dance was just for members and we had a good time and things went well.
Brian brought his stereo and I brought an additional cd player (one playing while the other was cued up on pause and ready to go).
We did the dance a few more times and the word got out.
Matt & I hit Spencer’s for a disco ball and so we added lights to the mix.
Brian then moved to South Carolina, where he met his wife while in the Air Force.
With Brian gone and since the dances were picking up, the President of da “Hosey” borrowed his son’s house stereo so we could keep the dances going.
Members from other “hoseys” in town came and the crowds really started building up.
This is where Eric comes in.
Eric & his fiancée had fun at the dances and asked me to DJ their wedding! I thought they were crazy because I didn’t know a thing about weddings, let alone dj’n in general.
I said no and Eric kept asking.
Then he asked me to dj the after-wedding party at his fire company, the New Minersville Fire Co., instead of the wedding.
He said I could use his house stereo and any of his cds since he had about 200 different cds.
I agreed to the after-wedding party and his fire company was packed after the wedding with plenty of dancing.
Eric had such a good time at the after-wedding party that he wanted to get involved.
So we formed a partnership called DJ: “Hi-Tech”.
We came up with the name because every time someone looked at our equipment and the disco ball, they said: “You’re REAL HI-TECH!”.
So, we were known as DJ: Hi-Tech/Low-Budget.
We dj’d back and forth between our two fire companies for all kinds of fundraisers and benefits (and the free beer – I guess that was the main incentive).
Shortly thereafter, we kept hearing people say: “Hey, you guys aren’t too bad.
Why don’t you look into some real professional equipment?”.
So we went to C&C Music in Hazleton and bought our first set of professional dj equipment.
Now we have a bunch of friends dj’ing with us.
