Detailed description is Diamond Lodge is located in King Salmon, Alaska. Offering full-service guided fishing trips on the Naknek and Nushugak Rivers. Location is everything. At least it is darned important. Diamond Lodge Enterprises has two facilities. The Diamond Lodge is in King Salmon, Alaska, situated on the world famous Naknek River, home of the largest wild Salmon fishery in the world and rated top five trophy rainbow rivers in the world. Worldly!. . The Diamond Lodge consists of the main lodge, the hub or daily activity, located over a six-acre plot scattered with spruce trees. There are six cabins: two 6-beds, two 3-beds and two 2-beds. We are in a renovation phase; the two 6-bed cabins have full bathroom/shower facilities, while the smaller cabins have a shower room facility, external to the cabin with separate gender accommodations. The external decor is rustic, lapboard, log oil. There is a large dinning hall, cooking facility where clients will eat and as they choose, mingle for socialization and fish stories. King Salmon is located 289 air miles from anchorage, access by plane only. Please check your internet map for a clearer depiction. King salmon is a small, colorful rural town in southwest Alaska with a maritime climate. Summer time temperatures, generally, range from 40-60 degrees, sometimes higher. Rain can happen at any time. Population in the winter may hit 400. The local people are primarily involved in wildlife management, commercial fishing, and sportsman accommodation.. . Naknek Lake is a short distance away, which is included in the huge wilderness, Katmai Park. The south shore of the lake has Brooks Camp, one of the premier brown bear watching locations. It is common to see over 45 bears (coastal grizzly) in mid-July. Access is by 20-mile float plane flight.. . Anglers Dream is a second lodge, a "fly out with accommodation". This is not the end of the earth, but you can see it from here. The location sits approximately 80 miles northeast of King Salmon in the mouth of the Kokwok River as it forms a confluence with the Nushagak. The Angler's Dream is a houseboat moored in a small, scenic Kokwok Bay, protected from inclement weather fronts by surrounding terrain. There are not long ramps or endless steps to traverse before reaching your boat. You step out of the preparation room area where waders, boots, coats and gear deposited between fishing excursions, onto the dock and into the boat. No fuss. Fishing locations are a few minutes away. If you are worried about getting seasick, do not. This facility weighs more than 70 tons, so there is no perceivable motion. There is a land component where fully modern shower houses, generator houses, storage facilities and fuel tanks are located. You will not hear throbbing generators in the lodge. All components connect with easily negotiable wooden walkways.. . The guests enjoy their down time watching and photographing local wildlife. First, there is our resident beaver family. Their house is only a few feet from the dining room; you can almost touch them as they work. Water foul, loons, shore birds are always present. Several species of fish are rising on the moment throughout the long summer days, maybe 3am-1am. You can see Moose feeding or just passing through the local sloughs early morning and at dusk. During late summer Caribou, pass through, intent on their migrations. Other animal are chance encounters such as wolves, wolverines, lynx, mink, otter and ferrets. Bald Eagles are everywhere. Then there are the brown bear. Coastal grizzlies, the second largest land predator in the world, literally permeate the entire Bristol Bay area. The Nushagak drainage is no exception. They are lurking in the bushes everywhere you travel. They feed on the salmon during the season and you will see them in this process, just not close and personal. We make every effort to discourage them from visiting the lodge and we are successful.. . If food is your forte, you are in luck. Our own hotel-trained chefs prepared each meal, consisting primarily of European cuisine, at 7-8am, 1pm and 7pm. Mealtimes are a real treat. Testimonials abound! Wine and beer comes with all meals.
