Detailed description is The Department of Psychology was started in1981 with a view to provide teaching in the discipline of Psychology for students coming with rural background.
The post-graduate Department of Psychology Sardar Patel University was started in1981 with a view to provide specialized and training teaching in the discipline of Psychology for students coming with rural background.
It had 7 students to begin with, with Dr.J.C.Parikh, as its only teacher.
In 1982, Dr.J.B.Patel joined the Department, and, Dr.M.M.
Patel and Dr.Pramod Kumar followed it in 1983.
With added faculty strength the Department started providing specialization in Industrial/Organization and Abnormal/Clinical areas along with option for Dissertation at the post-graduate level.
In 1994, the Department introduced one year M.Phil programme in Psychology, the only Department in the state of Gujarat to provide such a programme in Psychology.
The Department also started providing facilities for doctoral research, mainly in applied area, in the following years..

Prof L R yagnik is appointed as a professor from 2002 and Dr Samir J patel as reader same year.
There are three lecturers are also appointed in 2005 they are Dr Sangita N Pathak Dr Suresh Makawana and Dr.
Pankaj suvera.Now a day departmentrunning with five faculty members and that is 1 professor, 1 reader and three lecturers..
