Detailed description is Hunebed D19 ligt samen met hunebed D20 ten westen van het dorp Drouwen aan de Steenhopenweg vlak voor het in 2006 aangelegde viaduct onder de N34 in de Nederlandse provincie Drenthe.Het hunebed is 15,5 meter lang. Er zijn nog vijf dekstenen (een zesde ligt gespleten in de grafkelder) en vier poortstenen. Er ligt een poortdeksteen naast het hunebed.Het eerste moderne archeologisch onderzoek naar hunebedden in Nederland begon in 1912 bij deze twee hunebedden. Archeoloog Jan Hendrik Holwerda groef de hunebedden op.In dit hunebed werden diverse voorwerpen gevonden onder andere scherven van 400 aardewerk potten, vuurstenen pijlpunten en wat reepjes koper, die worden beschouwd als de oudste sieraden van Nederland. De potten zijn nu in het bezit van het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden. De dekstenen werden van hun plek gehesen om de grafkelder te kunnen onderzoeken.Society of AntiquariesRond 1870 waren de meeste hunebedden in bezit van de overheid en men besloot deze monumenten 'op te knappen'. Bezorgd om de 'restauraties' die door provincie en lokale overheden werden uitgevoerd, zoals het weggraven van de dekheuvels, stuurde de Society of Antiquaries in 1878 twee Engelse oudheidkundigen naar Drenthe. William Colling Lukis en sir Henry Dryden maakten in de periode van 1 tot 22 juli plattegronden en aangezichten van veertig Drentse hunebedden. Deze tekeningen (met beschrijvingen) waren van ongekend hoog niveau voor Nederlandse begrippen.
