Ans: Eighteen-year-old Corynne Barron is extremely proud to be a member of this season's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20. She hopes viewers will recognize that hard work is the key ingredient to earning a place amongst this select group of dancers. The young dancer says "It's what I have worked for dreamt about and hoped for since as far back as I can remember."
At age 15, Corynne trained at both the prestigious Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and the Edmonton School of Ballet, eventually leaving Canada for England to further pursue her craft. She continued her studies overseas with Kate Simmons Dance Ltd. The Albertan ballerina believes, however, that Canadians are among the best dancers in the world and credits this country's diversity. Of her fellow dancers she feels "there is a uniqueness that is difficult to describe."
With ballet as her main dance style, Corynne is also trained in contemporary and jazz. Although she is a little nervous to perform a hip-hop routine for the show, the Edmonton native is up for the challenge and considers the prospect "exciting."
When not perfecting her pliƩes and pirouettes, Corynne loves travelling with her family, baking, holding movie nights with friends or doing "anything active and outdoorsy," she says. Corynne maintains she is absolutely most comfortable when "in good company, laughing, having a good time and just enjoying myself."
Corynne would most like to emulate the career of Kherington Payne of the U.S. version of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. "Right now she is doing exactly what I would love to do -
dancing and acting in the upcoming film Fame. I think that would be an unreal experience," she says.
When asked what sort of advice she would give to next season's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA hopefuls, Corynne suggests "be yourself, but be confident...because if you believe it, your audience will too!"
Corynne Barron, who graduated from Vimy Ridge Academy, will dance in the first performance show on CTV Tuesday night, competing with three other Albertans who made the top 20.
