Coolmore Stud is owned by Mr John Magnier, originally from Co Cork. Operating since the 1850’s the Magnier family has a long established tradition in the South of Ireland for standing top class National Hunt stallions (like 14-time Champion sire Deep Run). It continues to this day in Cork with top class stallions such as Flemensfirth, Milan, Westerner, Yeats etc. Coolmore’s headquarters in Fethard, Co Tipperary was later developed in the 1970’s in conjunction with John Magnier’s late father in law, the outstanding horse trainer Vincent O' Brien, and Robert Sangster with the objective of creating a world class stallion operation.. . The world renowned training establishment at Ballydoyle, where Dr. Vincent O’ Brien sent out numerous high class horses over a 40 year period, is now a major part of the Coolmore organisation. Irish Champion trainer Aidan O’Brien is the resident trainer and Coolmore have made a major investment in this outstanding facility so that the great tradition of success that Dr. O’Brien established may continue in the future.. . The legendary sire Sadler’s Wells also stood in Coolmore and died recently at the age of 30. In 2004, Sadler’s Wells became Champion Sire for a remarkable 14th time, smashing Highflyer’s record which was set way back in 1798.
