Detailed description is Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito abierta. Coocique nació el 11 de abril de 1965, siendo la primera cooperativa de su naturaleza en el cantón de San Carlos. La Cámara Junior de Ciudad Quesada fue el primer movimiento comunal que tomó la iniciativa para crearla. Esta idea fue tomando forma y desarrollándose hasta convertirse en una cooperativa, que en sus inicios estuvo formada por 100 personas dedicadas a diversas actividades económicas. Hoy día agremia a más de 117.000 personas.. . En sus inicios Coocique contó con el apoyo de diversas entidades, nacionales y extranjeras, como el Cuerpo de Paz y la Asociación Cooperativa de los Estados Unidos. Asimismo, la Iglesia, en su afán de inculcar el sentimiento de unión en la comunidad, estuvo a favor del desarrollo cooperativo de Ciudad Quesada. De igual forma, no se debe omitir la identificación cultural del pueblo sancarleño, caracterizado por la unión y el espíritu de trabajo, el cual, sin duda, fue quien dio el impulso económico a la empresa.. . Desde entonces, Coocique ha afrontado con éxito las circunstancias de la economía, aprovechando las oportunidades del mercado financiero. Esto permitió no solamente el crecimiento y fortalecimiento de sus operaciones, sino también el desarrollo de las comunidades, que ha sido para Coocique R.L. su razón de ser.. . Es importante hacer mención que el movimiento cooperativista ha sufrido muchos cambios que se pueden agrupar en tres etapas principales: paternalista, empresarial y de alianzas.
