Detailed description is CBAP is a non-profit that provides free legal assistance to low income Philadelphians trying to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy and seeking a fresh start! CBAP relies on volunteer attorneys and law students who assist our clients as they seek to stabilize their financial situations.. . Volunteer attorneys will:. . - Learn substantive Chapter 7 bankruptcy law through CBAP's training session. . - Be matched with a mentor attorney who will be available to answer questions and review all bankruptcy documents prior to filing petitions with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. . - Gain practical experience by working with clients. . - Obtain the opportunity to improve interviewing and legal analysis skills. . - Have access to CBAP's Chapter 7 bankruptcy software and interviewing offices. . - Be covered by CBAP's malpractice insurance. . - Receive the support of the CBAP staff throughout the representation of a CBAP client. . Volunteer law students will: . . - Learn substantive Chapter 7 bankruptcy law through CBAP's training session. . - Gain practical experience by working with clients. . - Be matched with a supervising attorney who will guide the client and the law student through the entire Chapter 7 bankruptcy process. . - Learn how to conduct client interviews through working with clients. . - Obtain the opportunity to learn legal analysis skills. . - Receive insights into the challenges and hurdles CBAP clients face due to their lack of income. . - Have access to CBAP's Chapter 7 bankruptcy software and interviewing offices. . - Be covered by CBAP's malpractice insurance. . - Receive the support of CBAP's staff throughout the representation of a CBAP client. . All of CBAP's volunteers will have the opportunity to make a difference in our clients' lives. Because clients must have gross monthly incomes below the federal poverty guidelines to qualify for CBAP's pro bono services, our clients could not afford legal representation to assist them with their severe financial problems. Through the volunteer services of CBAP's attorneys and law students, clients gain access to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and are able to stabilize their finances.
