Detailed description is The CACG is a community based organic garden/urban farm. We foster a greater sense of community between local residents and SDSU affiliates. After several years of planning, meetings and successful fundraising; after thousands of hours of hard work by hundreds of volunteers, the College Area Community Garden is now well established. Veggies and fruit trees are in the ground and thriving. We are a community based organic garden/urban farm which has an attractive network of raised bed garden plots and related areas to foster a greater sense of community between local community residents and San Diego State University students/staff/faculty. The garden is partly sustained by charging low fees for yearly memberships and collecting modest "rent" to lease two different size raised bed plots: 4' x 4' and 4' x 8'. Future plans include raising chickens, an aquaculture area, a 30 person outdoor classroom, solar electric panels, rain water harvesting and storage and possibly two pygmy goats. A new bee house is now buzzing with activity.. . In partnership with SDSU and other local subject matter experts, the community garden sponsors educational workshops and conducts classes on organic farming practices, planet friendly agricultural methods, and water-wise irrigation and collection methods. The workshops and classes promote healthy soils, water, food crops and ecosystems. Our efforts are coordinated with other local and regional community gardens as well as local, state and national organizations. . . The garden benefits from grants and donations from local governments, businesses and private citizens who all share our vision for a healthier future.
