Com a falta de emprego e de outras fontes de renda, os pais não podiam pagar as mensalidades cobradas pela única escola de 2º grau que havia no município que era o Centro Educacional Cenecista de Piritiba..

Assim, com o idealismo de muitos piritibanos que almejavam, começou-se a solicitar do Governo do Estado, a criação de uma escola de 2º grau que atendesse a população estudantil carente e atendendo a essa solicitação, no segundo semestre de 2001 iniciou-se as obras de construção da nova escola.
No dia 15 de janeiro de 2002, o então secretário de Educação do Estado da Bahia, Sr.
Eraldo Tinoco, através da Portaria nº 507/2002, cria o Colégio Estadual Professora Aydil Lima dos Santos, para ministrar o Ensino Médio.
Essa portaria foi publicada no Diário Oficial de 16.01.2002..

No dia 18 de fevereiro de 2002 iniciam-se as aulas no referido colégio, tendo uma matrícula inicial de 804 alunos, distribuídos nos três turnos, nos cursos de Formação Geral, Magistério e Curso Normal.
A escola começou a funcionar no prédio da antiga CNEC (alugado), até a conclusão do novo prédio, tendo como diretor em exercício o professor Nilton Souza Guimarães.
A aula inaugural contou com a presença da Diretora Regional de Educação a Sra.
Sônia Laura Trindade Sampaio, professores e alunos e pessoas da comunidade..

Em 27 de setembro de 2002, foi inaugurado o prédio do Colégio Aydil.
