Detailed description is Our mission is to ensure all Central New York families have access to an adequate supply of diapers, and to build awareness of diaper need in our community The CNY Diaper Bank was founded in May of 2016 by a group of locals moms with a simple mission: eliminate diaper need in Central New York.. . A staggering 50% of Syracuse city children under 5 live in poverty....that's 1 out of every 2 children. 1 in 4 lives in extreme poverty.* For the families of these children, buying diapers is an enormous struggle. Low-income families will spend twice as much as families who have access to bulk-buying options for diapers. . A few of the facts:. * Not having diapers means parents can’t leave their children with a childcare provider, most of which require parents to provide disposable diapers for their children. . . *Not having diapers means a longer time between changes, which can lead to severe diaper rash and other health risks.. . *Not having diapers means that babies who cry because their diaper is dirty will cry that much longer, increasing stress and anxiety for parents struggling to make ends meet and increasing risks for physical abuse.. . *And not having diapers can adversely affect a mother’s feeling of self-worth, negatively impacting the mother-child bond.. . You can easily help by participating in a local diaper drive (see events), creating your own diaper drive (www.cnydiaperbank.org) or volunteering to distribute diapers to organizations in the community. Currently CNY Diaper Bank is partnering with Vera House, ACR Health, Rescue Mission and University United Methodist and University United Methodist Community Outreach.
