El Atlético Bucaramanga fue Fundado oficialmente el 11 de mayo de 1949, bajo dirección de Rafael Chaberman, comerciante barranquillero, quien junto a varios ciudadanos de la época, en su mayoría pertenecientes a la Liga Santandereana de Fútbol, tomó la iniciativa de crear un club que representara a los santandereanos. Fue así que en 1949, año después de haberse creado la idea del fútbol profesional en Colombia, se crea oficialmente el Club Atlético Bucaramanga. Además de su fundador, el señor Rafael Chaberman, se encuentran otros socios como: Rafael Pérez Martínez, Luis Fernando San Miguel, Jorge Reyes Puyana, Vicente Díaz, Manuel Enrique Puyana, Juan B. Silva, Gustavo Mantilla Paipilla, Elías Solano y Enrique Orduz Ardila. Todos ellos verdaderos maestros del deporte que le dieron vida al ente administrativo en 1949.. . Uno de sus mejores momentos es en el año de 1951, cuando el equipo figuró en los primeros lugares de la tabla de posiciones durante la primera vuelta del torneo profesional de futbol colombiano. Los fanáticos que acompañaban al equipo comenzaron alentarlo con apelativos como “Canarios” o “Leopardos”. Denominados así, debido al color amarillo de la camiseta. Luego de esto la palabra leoparda fue añadida ya que existía desde épocas de antaño, y se le conocía al atlético Bucaramanga como el equipo leopardo.. . En la actualidad el Atlético Bucaramanga, se encuentra disputando su lugar en la máxima categoría del fútbol colombiano, sacando sus garras para defenderse de sus rivales, demostrando con 3 victorias consecutivas, que los leopardos tienen todavía ese aguante que los impulsa a llevar el nombre de su equipo en alto.. . ¡Somos de PRIMERA!.
