Squat progression example: an athlete is first taught an ‘air squat’.
This is a squat without weight.
When the athlete can consistently keep their weight in their heels, their back straight, their knees appropriately tracked over their feet, their chest up, and the hip joint is comfortably at or below parallel to their knee joint, then the athlete can progress to squatting with a 10lb kettle bell.
Once the athlete masters the kettle bell squat, then the athlete can progress to squatting with an empty barbell.
