Detailed description is Centro Acadêmico dos Estudantes de Medicina da USP Fundado em 1913, pela primeira turma do curso de Medicina, o Centro Acadêmico Oswaldo Cruz, conhecido carinhosamente como CAOC, é a entidade representativa dos estudantes da Faculdade de Medicina da USP. Dessa forma, é o responsável por lutar pelas demandas dos estudantes, negociar com as instituições de ensino, representar os alunos nos espaços estudantis e fazer a manutenção do subsolo da faculdade, um espaço conhecido como “Porão”, onde está localizada a sua sede.. . O CAOC é, historicamente, muito participativo nas questões sociais e políticas do país, tendo possuído papel indispensável na história do Movimento Estudantil e do Brasil desde a sua fundação. Podemos destacar sua participação na construção do Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP, na fundação e refundação da União Nacional dos Estudantes (UNE), no movimento político de resistência à Ditadura Militar, no ativismo das Diretas Já e no processo da Reforma Sanitária Brasileira. O Centro Acadêmico Oswaldo Cruz foi também pioneiro na criação de ligas acadêmicas, na organização de congressos científicos anuais e na edição e publicação de jornais e revistas estudantis, como O Bisturi e a Revista de Medicina (hoje publicada pelo Departamento Científico).. . Além desses aspectos, sua estrutura serve de apoio para iniciativas culturais, sociais e projetos de extensão dos estudantes, tendo, com isso, originado importantes entidades associadas, como o Departamento Científico (DC) e a Associação Atlética Acadêmica Oswaldo Cruz (AAAOC).. .
