The Center for Global Studies & Social Justice at Avila University strives to expand access to learning opportunities that prepare Avila’s students for a life of meaningful contributions to greater justice and equality within our global community.
The Center accomplishes its goals by collaborating across campus and the world to integrate learning activities with social actions through: curricular and co-curricular support for Global Studies (GS) designated-courses and language study programs; coordination and sponsorship of global studies & social justice related events; partnerships with those engaged in work “for the life of the world”; and, the promotion of study abroad, international internship, and scholarship opportunities for students and faculty.
In addition to playing roles in the strategic, curricular, and co-curricular responsibilities of the Center, the multi-disciplinary Affiliate Faculty engage in scholarship and teaching focusing on international and global perspectives concerning political institutions, environmental policy, ever-changing technology, and the exercise of social and material power of people..

Global learning and literacy provide the overarching intention, framework and rationale for liberal education.
The three major outcomes for curricular learning are: i) Globalize and decenter the Western perspective, ii) Communicate using existing resources and evolving technologies to facilitate collaboration in a global community, and iii) Advocate for a socially just global society..
