Valencia se construyó alrededor de lo que en su momento se llamó la Plaza Mayor (hoy día la Plaza Bolívar), debiendo recurrir los pobladores a la extensión progresiva de la cuadricula ya establecida acorde el aumento de habitantes. La calle más antigua de la zona colonial es la actual calle Colombia (Calle Real en sus inicios) la cual conectaba con la carretera principal, con el puente Morrillo y era la vía principal que llevaba hacia los Valles del Tuy.
