Cary High School traces its roots back to Frank Page.
Mr.
Page started private Cary Academy in 1870, on the same campus where Cary Elementary stands today.
He later sold the school to the Jones Family, who then sold it to local citizens who were interested in education.
On July 24, 1896, Cary High School was officially chartered as such, by the state of North Carolina.
Cary High School, like Cary Academy, established a reputation for excellence in education and drew boarding students from across the state and from several other eastern states.
In 1907, Cary High School became, if not the very first, one of the first public high schools in North Carolina, as the General Assembly set up such schools.
Like the town, Cary High School continued to grow raidly until 1960 when the school shifted up the road to its current spot on Walnut Street.
