About Project Sandbox. . • To build at least one playground in each of the 9 Islands of Cape Verde. . • As of December 2007, we have purchased and shipped 3 playgrounds and . successfully installed one in the Island of Brava. Kits for Cape Verde . . Kits for Cape Verde is an annual class project from the students of Mrs. Judith Foster’s 3rd Grade class from Philip R. Smith School in South Windsor, CT. The project started in 2004, after the students were inspired by hearing their classmate Jacinta Lomba talk about Cape Verde. Jacinta is the daughter of Co-Founder of CVU Genie Lomba. . . CVU has partnered with Philip R. Smith School to work together on Kits for Cape Verde. The school children help collect the donations and CVU the ships the Kits to Cape Verde in the crate along with the playgrounds. . . Kits for Cape Verde include . . School Kit:. Notebooks, Pens and Pencils, Crayons, Erasers, Pencil Sharpeners, Scissors, Glue Sticks and Rulers. . Health Kits: . The idea behind a mobile library came about due to the fact that there are very few libraries in the Islands of Cape Verde. The children in remote villages do not have access to a library due to transportation and economic challenges.
