In the 1920's, the area was named 'Field Canyon Creek' after a Mr. Field, an employee of a lumber company operating on the steep-banked stream, This was to differenciate it from other Canyon Creeks in the area. A post office was established in March 1928, & was named for the nearby creek. The first postmistress was Mary Potter. The name Canyon Creek was officially adopted in 1967. In 1985, for economic reasons, it joined two other nearby hamlets, Widewater & Wagner. More history will be posted as it is gathered.
