Detailed description is American neo-classical composer and emerging contemporary abstract artist "I use a camera as my microscope to reveal magnified worlds unseen by the naked eye. Combining my original acrylic paintings and macro-photos of them into one piece of intermedia art, these densely layered images resemble flora and fauna under a microscope, fused with cosmic images seen through telescopes. Just as scopes expand our awareness, the product of my process takes viewers on a trip by exposing details impossible to see casually glancing at art.This process explores the relationship of scale and perspective limited by our natural senses. Abstract yet accessible, easy to understand and enjoy, I love to capture the awe and wonderment I experienced of my upbringing in Hawaii. Influenced by my studies in ethnomusicology and as a neoclassical composer, these paintings are also visually immersive songs: I have always viewed art and music as an expressive journey - not just a “finale” to the song. Like the conductor of a symphony, I present my own vision, granting me the most control over my subject matter. I love that nearly everyone has a different interpretation or story they ascribe to these purposefully ambiguous images. Our creativity and capacity for pattern recognition is the link between the macrocosm and microcosm. Between my paintings and photos, I juxtapose scale and size by visually comparing the images, it is an exercise of perception realizing a cosmic unity of perspective. My acrylic macro series interweave otherworldly images with merging planes of perspective brought to life with technology. I visually ooze the terrestrial and celestial into one plane, blurring the boundaries which further represent the unity of nature, music, and the universe."
