Detailed description is . Sinds de opening door Freddy Heineken in februari 1955, is Café de Oude Wacht een begrip op het Zuiderdiep in Groningen. De ruimte waar het café zich vestigde, was daarvoor in gebruik als wachtruimte voor buspassagiers en –conducteurs: het busstation bevond zich voor de deur. Het echtpaar Wies en Bob Marijn was 50 jaar lang uitbater van de Oude Wacht, een feit dat verklaart waarom het café zoveel authentieke elementen vertoont.. . De huidige eigenaren Bert de Kleuver en Eddy de Boer hebben vanaf hun aantreden in 2005 met veel respect voor de traditie van het bedrijf een groot aantal vernieuwingen doorgevoerd. Het café ademt daardoor nog steeds de nostalgische sfeer van weleer, maar doet dat met het elan en de middelen van nu. Het aanbod aan dranken is indrukwekkend: acht bieren van de tap, waaronder alle bieren van huismerk Brand; de Oude Wacht is met trots een Brand Proeflokaal. Het café biedt ca. 20 wijnen, die alle per glas verkrijgbaar zijn. Ook is er een uitgebreide hapjeskaart. Dagelijks wordt lunch geserveerd en ook is er iedere dag een daghap. Het grote zonnige terras is een trekpleister van jewelste en het omvangrijke, vaste publiek wordt aangevuld met dagjesmensen en toeristen die verblijven in de vele hotels in de directe omgeving.. . De clientèle van de Oude Wacht rekent inmiddels op de vele vaste ijkpunten die de kalender markeren, van het Winterfeest in januari tot de Kerstdaghap voor een goed doel in december, met daartussenin onder veel meer de feestelijke introductie van Brand Seizoensbieren, het aspergediner, de mosselparty, het bezoek van de Oesterman, het beachvolleybaltoernooi, proeverijen, quizzen, etc.. . In 2013 kon het café met trots een uitbreiding realiseren: de caféruimte nam met 40% toe en de mogelijkheid ontstond om groepen tot 35 personen een privéruimte te bieden. Café de Oude Wacht verzorgt de meest uiteenlopende evenementen op maat van maaltijden voor grote groepen, bruiloften tot een bedrijfsontbijt.
