Cradled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado, Cadwell Outfitters offers horseback rides and overnight horse pack trips into the La Garita and Powderhorn Wildernesses.
For over fifty years, the Cadwell Ranch has been in the business of outfitting and ranching.
Our wrangler and guide, Steve Grice has over thirty years of experience with horses and back country trips.

You will step back in time as you ride on majestic trails--the very same trails ridden by the Ute Indians, mountain men, miners, and cowboys over one hundred years ago.
The La Garita and Powderhorn Wilderness areas are vast federal wilderness areas accessible only by horse, mule or hiking--not even bicycles are allowed.
Thus, they have remained pristine and untarnished, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
On your ride, you will witness stunning views of several mountain ranges, some more than 100 miles away.
Additionally, you will have opportunities to photograph the native wildlife, such as elk, moose, mule deer, and rocky mountain sheep, to name a few..

Day ride rates are $50.00 for two hours, $70.00 for a half day and $100.00 for a full day.
Eight hours is considered a full day..

If you are interested in overnight trips, we offer pack trips, where you have the choice of staying in either the lodge or cowboy wall tents.

The lodge is at the head of a valley in the middle of the wilderness area.
The magnificent views from the lodge will simply take your breath away.
This rustic lodge is located on private land, owned by the Cadwell Outfitters, which is nestled within the federal wilderness area.
It has two bedrooms, an upstairs loft with sleeping area, two bathrooms, and a kitchen.
The lodge is semi-modern with running water, hot showers, propane lights, stove and refrigeration.

For the fishermen in your group, there is no better place to find trout in the San Juan Mountains than in our valley.
Right outside the door of the lodge, you will find the most incredible trout fishing from Spring Creek and several private ponds.

You may also want to just kick-back, relax and enjoy the peace and quite of this beautiful valley.
