We are home to the Mighty Marching Bulldogs.
During the Industrial Revolution, people flocked to the “Magic City” to find work in the ever growing factories that offered economic opportunities.
Ensley was founded as a suburb of Birmingham by Enoch Ensley and he used his resources to purchase controlling interest in the Ensley Land Company which manufactured the first open hearth to produce steel.
The Ensley community began to develop which created a need for schools.
The first Ensley School (now Bush K-8 School) was constructed in 1901.
It was erected to serve students in the primary grades through high school..

The current Ernest F.
Bush K-8 School was constructed in 1923 at 1112 25th Street, Ensley by the Birmingham City School System.
Following the construction of Ensley High School, the Ensley School was renamed Ernest F.
Bush Middle School (now Bush K-8) in honor of the superintendent of Ensley Schools, Ernest F.
Bush.
The mascot of Bush K-8 School is the bulldog.
The bulldog was chosen because it represents loyalty and lovingness.
It is brave and determined, just like the school it represents..
At Bush K-8 School, we have highly qualified staff members who are prepared mentally, educationally and spiritually to instruct students into maturing critical thinkers.
We have motivated students who are eager to learn and willing to participate in thought provoking conversations.
We are also fortunate to have parents who are concerned about the well-being of their children and the community.
Furthermore, we are a part of the great Ensley community that began over a hundred years ago and continues to thrive today.
Throughout the years many students have transitioned throughout the building, however, the goal of providing our students with an ever changing world class education remains the same..
Starting August 14, 2014, we will be at Center Street Middle School (1832 Center Way South) while Bush K-8 will be in the renovation process.
We will provide transportation for all of our students to get to Center Street before and after school.
In the future, we are expecting to return back to our newly renovated Bush K-8 School.
