Detailed description is MAPS is a student group at Brown University for anyone who is Premed or interested in being premed and the intersections between medicine and race! MAPS, the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Stuents is part of a National organization that works to eradicate prejudicial practices in the medical education and health care delivery and helps sponsor programs for minority youth to encourage their entrance into health professions. In addition, MAPS is dedicated both to ensuring that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations and to increasing the number of African-American, Latino, and other students of color entering and completing medical school.. . The Brown University chapter of MAPS will engage with the minority and majority communities of Providence, RI and surrounding areas. We will engage in education and service based initiatives that promote health equity and encourage health careers.. . MAPS strives to create a culture that embraces minority leaders by fostering a community in which minorities support other minorities' endeavors, and by setting our sights toward a career in healthcare.
