Detailed description is Brisbane Galleries are currently displaying paintings by Russell R Kereama and various Australian artists collected over the past 30 years by Cor Frederiks Brisbane Galleries was established in 1988 at 66 Woodlands Drive, Thornlands QLD, 4164 and opened by the then Premier of Queensland Mike Ahern MLA on the 15th October 1988, after sponsoring four well known artists namely, Denis Hardy, Tom McAuley, Peter Lawson and David Babcock to paint in Kakado National Park for approximately four weeks over 90 paintings were produced and displayed in the Cairns “Upstairs Gallery”..
Being the sponsors Brisbane Galleries had priority purchasing 80 paintings, which were taken to Brisbane for the opening of the Brisbane Gallery in Thornlands and between 1988 and 1991 – 71 of the Kakado paintings were sold as well as promoting various Australian artists during that period and selling their works..
Nine Kakado paintings were not sold and kept in the collection of Cor Frederiks FCPA..
Since 1 October 1991 Cor Frederiks commenced an accountancy practice in Thornlands and only had the gallery opened by invitation – as well as having promoted various local artists over time..
The last major art show was in late November, early December 2011 when over 50 paintings were sold in one weekend including six Darcy Doyle paintings out of the private collection..
Recently the art gallery and part of the private collection of Cor Frederiks was transferred from Thornlands to 1/12 Doig Street, Cleveland showing one hundred paintings including fifty-odd paintings by Russell Kereama, who is an exciting up and coming artist.
His work has been shown on TV late last year on Channel 74 on “Colour in Your Life” promoted by well-known artists Graeme Stevenson and Gordon Hanley..
