Detailed description is ...continuing the historical strength of Boggs Academy. Boggs Rural Life Center was formerly Boggs Academy founded in 1906 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. John Lawrence Phelps and the Presbyterian Church. Boggs was an accredited secondary educational institution for stellar Afro-American students before integration. In 1991 Local leaders led the transition of Boggs Academy to Boggs Rural Life Center, a non-profit to help address the needs and issues in Burke and surrounding counties. The rural historical site is made up of approximately 1250 acres of farm and forestry land, a campus which houses several dormitories and cottages and a 19,000 square feet multi-purpose building with an auditorium, classroom/office space and a computer lab.
